gun control: obama’s 23 executive orders

Via Mother Jones: I read the list for the first time this morning as I drank my first cup of coffee of the day. Maybe they haven’t sunk in yet, but I see nothing wrong with the list as it stands.

I’m a gun owner, sort of. I have a little nine shot .22 revolver that I shoot for shits, living out in the woods. I enjoy shooting a lot, it’s very calming. It’s hard to explain to people who have never shot a gun.

Beyond that, I’m a big believer in the interpretation of the second amendment that says that the founding fathers, those slave owning white people, intended for the populace at large to be armed to discourage tyranny. As well as the other arguments, of course, the self defense, and whatnot. I’d love to have a concealed carry permit, and see nothing wrong with states that have open carry.

I also hate the approach the government and media have taken to the gun control argument. “Assault weapons?” Because it has a pistol grip and it’s black? I remember the old assault weapons ban had a provision for a bayonet lug. Really. Because nothing’s scarier than a gun with a knife on the end of it.

But I digress. The original intent of this post was to go through the orders, so I will. Continue reading
