you don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the rise

I miss Conan. Since his move to TBS I never catch him anymore.

In any case, this video is a beautiful example of how lazy the media has become. I got this from r/conspiracy, one of my favorite sources for alternative viewpoints on current events. Usually batshit viewpoints, but it gets me thinking in other directions, anyway.

The conspiracy people would have you believe, as they do, that this is a symptom of some kind of government scripting going on, or something. Some New World Order Illuminati shit. I think it’s a lot simpler than that, as is usually the case.

I don’t know this for a fact, but I imagine that there are national companies that write copy for local news. They send off a little package every day. “Here are a few graphics you could use for the story, some suggested titles, a compilation of stock footage, and here’s the tagline: ‘If you’ve been at the gas pumps lately then you don’t need us to tell you that gas prices are back on the rise.’ That’ll be $2000, thanks.”

It’s laziness, and it’s bullshit, and it’s one of the reasons that local news is failing hard. My local newspaper is nothing but republished AP articles that I could have read online the day before. The local news articles are really bad and uninformative. Every service that the newspaper provides could be replaced. There’s a reason that small news outlets are in trouble, and it’s shit like this. It shows.
